Russian International Studies Association was founded on December 22, 1999. RISA President is Rector of MGIMO-University, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Doctor of Political Sciences, Corresponding Member of Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Anatoly V. Torkunov. Association is one of the most active members of International Studies Association (ISA).

RISA's aim is to preserve and develop existing traditions in research of international relations and in teaching of corresponding disciplines. We also wish to maintain and develop high professional level of research and teaching of world politics in Russia as well as to extend our contacts with similar national and international organizations. RISA also strives to promote informal contacts between representatives of political and scientific communities in the area of world politics and international relations.

Currently association comprises 333 people in 7 countries and 36 cities of Russia. The number of applications for RISA membership is growing. RISA is unique from the point of view of membership rules and regulations - we don't charge any membership fees. However, there is a strict system of selection of candidates.

RISA participated in several international symposiums, seminars, forums, conferences, roundtables. In close cooperation with International Studies Association (ISA) RISA organized three full scale Conventions on the major issues of international relations and of Russian foreign policy. Convention papers were released in hard and electronic versions.

Preparation for the 4th RISA Convention has been started. The Convention will be held in Moscow (MGIMO - University) on September 22-23, 2006. The theme of the Convention will be "Space and Time in World Politics and International Relations". The Program of the Convention will be put together after all the proposals on themes of panels and roundtables are studied, therefore, after registration is over. Such approach will allow to consider suggestions of the participants and to reflect major trends discussed within the world scientific community today.

According to existing tradition no participation fee will be charged. The only condition for participation will be submitting papers or summaries, which will be studied carefully by the members of the program committee and on the basis of which participants will be selected.
